In vietnamese marriage history, the day of the bride is considered the end of a new chapter in a child’s career and is marked by numerous symbolic rites. Some of them are based on historic ideas and others are influenced by Confucian and Buddhist beliefs.

For case, before the festival, the groom’s home did explore the couple’s kids and inquire for their permission to take the lady away. The couple’s representatives will bring gifts in special boxes adorned with red towel: tobacco leaves and areca forearm berry, cakes and jewels for the bride, as well as a baked piglets to reflect good fortune for the couple.

Traditionally, prior- arranged spouses in Vietnam were frequent as they allowed households to swimming resources and protect their assets. Nowadays, this practice is n’t as common, however, arranged relationships still play an important role in Vietnamese society. On the day of the wedding, the newlyweds will wear their ao dai ( traditional dresses for women ) and suits for men. They will also wear matching equipment and a blossom queen.

The most important celebration of the day is the Drink and Candle Ceremony, which is both a formal meeting between two communities as well as a way to honor the couples’ elders and ancestors. The newlyweds will serve Green Tea or Chrysanthemum Tea to their guests, starting with the oldest members of the family. They will then receive money and jewelry from the guests as a way to show their appreciation. The ceremony ends with the lighting of a Dragon and Phoenix candle to officially symbolise the fusion of families.
